      HISTORY

In Serbia and Montenegro, the Department for Town Landscaping was established at the Faculty of Forestry in Belgrade in 1960. Later on its title changed into the Department of Horticulture, then Department of Landscape Architecture, and from 2002 its name is Department of Landscape Architecture and Horticulture. About 1100 engineers graduated at this Department from 1964 till 2003.

During the period of the former SFR Yugoslavia, Landscape Architecture Schools were formed also in Ljubljana ("Krajinska" Architecture at the Biotechnical Faculty) and in Zagreb (Gardening and Landscaping, i.e. later on Landscape Architecture at the Faculty of Agronomy). During that period, there was a constant demand to establish a professional organisation for landscape architecture.

1983. The first Assembly of the Association of Landscape Architects of Yugoslavia (ALAY) was held on September 21, 1983. The Head Office of ALAY was in Dubrovnik. The Chairmanship consisted of: Dušan Ogrin (Chairman – Ljubljana), Stevan Mili­nković and Nadežda Pejović (Belgrade), Bruno Šišić (Dubrovnik), Sonja Jurković (Zagreb), Dragan Šojlevski (Skopje) and Branka Vukičević (Sarajevo).

1987. ALAY was registered as 46th national member in IFLA – International Federation of Landscape Architects.

1996. After the disintegration of the former SFR Yugoslavia, a new constituent assembly of the Association of Landscape Architects of Yugoslavia (ALA) was held on Mt. Kopaonik, and the President was Dr. Jasminka Cvejić. The Head Office of ALAY is in Belgrade. The Association was registered by the Federal Ministry of Justice, number 3/1-092/61996-07 dated 01.07.1996, reg. list 263, number 214.

2001. The ALA Assembly elected the new Chairmanship (05.04.2001): Zoran Korjak (President), Anđelka Jevtović (Vice-President), Jasminka Cvejić, Mihajlo Grbić, Milica Rašić, Aleksandar Bobić, Dragan Vujičić (Secretary).

2003. The ALA Assembly was held on 25.10.2003. The Statute was changed and the Managing Board was elected: Anđelka Jevtović (President), Aleksandar Bobić, Dragan Vujičić, Uroš Brzaković, Branislava Milićević, Mirjana Šećerov, Olja Milosavljević.

The ALA was re-registered with a changed title: Association of Landscape Architects of Serbia and Montenegro (ALA).

The Statute of the Association of Landscape Architects was adopted by the Assembly of ALA on October 25, 2003.

The Codex of the Association of Landscape Architects was adopted by the Assembly of ALA on June 5, 2004.
